Let's explore why adding CDs to your merchandise lineup could be a brilliant move for your music career:

1. Physical Merchandise: Audio CDs can serve as a tangible merchandise item that fans can collect. Some music enthusiasts appreciate owning physical copies of their favorite albums, especially for artists they are particularly devoted to.

2. Aesthetic and Artwork: Musicians often put a lot of effort into the album artwork, design, and packaging. Physical CDs provide a canvas for artists to showcase their visual concepts, lyrics, liner notes, and artistic vision in a way that digital formats may not.

3. Niche Audience: Certain genres or niche markets may have a dedicated fan base that prefers physical media. Collectors, audiophiles, and fans of certain genres like classical music or limited-edition releases might still value CDs.

4. Live Performances: Musicians often sell CDs at live concerts and performances as a way to connect with fans directly. Autographed CDs can be particularly attractive to fans attending these events.

5. Supporting Independent Artists: Some fans see buying physical merchandise like CDs as a way to directly support independent or lesser-known artists.

6. Souvenirs and Memorabilia: CDs can serve as souvenirs from concerts or events, allowing fans to remember a particular moment or show.

7. Alternative Revenue Stream: While physical sales might not be as dominant as they once were, they can still contribute to an artist's revenue stream alongside digital downloads, streaming royalties, and other income sources.

8. Promotional Tool: Sending physical CDs to radio stations, reviewers, or industry contacts can still be a part of an artist's promotional strategy to generate media coverage and airplay.

9. Limited Editions: Musicians often release special edition CDs with bonus tracks, alternate versions, or exclusive content. These limited editions can create a sense of urgency for fans to purchase physical copies.

10. Personal Connection: For some artists, having physical copies of their work feels more personal and tangible, creating a stronger connection between the musician and their audience.
TrepStar Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18093032362086018154noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155830667866204306.post-20119142042851876352023-02-24T14:31:00.002-06:002023-02-24T14:37:46.989-06:00Gracenote Registration
For $29, TrepStar will submit your Audio CD information to Gracenote so your music will be recognized by iTunes and other services.

Gracenote is the largest on-line database registry for CD-Audio (music or spoken word). Let us know what you think by sending an email to trepstar.
TrepStar Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18093032362086018154noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155830667866204306.post-72309403024809490292022-08-26T11:47:00.013-05:002022-09-04T09:17:48.535-05:00Wholesale order or retail buy now buttons? How does the TrepStar billing system work?Let's start with your business. You sell your own CD/DVD or USB custom products. You either have your own website and use a shopping cart like Shopify, or perhaps you just marketed your products on Amazon and sold using CreateSpace or Amazon Media on Demand (both of which are now closed).

In any case, to use TrepStar, you'll need a way to market your product. By marketing I mean you have your own website or facebook or instagram pages that describe the products you offer. TrepStar is not a marketplace like Amazon so it's up to you to get customers from your social media pages to your product description pages.

From there, you either have a shopping cart or not.

Wholesale order method: If you do have a cart already (like Shopify or any of these for example ) you are going to be accepting money from your customer. In this case, you want TrepStar to receive your order data into what we call our Wholesale order system. We charge you our low wholesale price to manufacture and ship your CD/DVD or USB product on demand at order time and ship to your customer address. You can also login to TrepStar, click the order button, and order any product you want to send to any retailer you have. This is called drop shipping. Many of our customers "drop ship" dozens or hundreds of items to FBA (fulfillment by Amazon) or any other retailer they may have. If you don't have retailers, that's OK. What you are doing is simply getting your individual customer order data into the TrepStar order system when an order occurs from your site shopping cart. We have ways of automating that process so you don't have to type in each customer name and address. In this model, you have a shopping cart that collects money from your customer. You pay TrepStar only after you submit orders to our system. Order go on hold until you pay TrepStar. To pay TrepStar, you login, and click our "Pay Bill" button. You can pay just what you owe, or pay extra to "fund" your account for future orders. If you expect to spend $100 per week for example, you can pay your bill plus an extra $100 which will mean you only have to pay a bill once per week. You can pay more if you want to avoid lots of payments. We prefer large payments to avoid all the transaction charges we incur every time we take an online payment.

Retail order method: If you do NOT have a cart already and don't want to spend the $50 to $100 per month to have a cart, you can use our retail order buy now buttons. You still need to have your own website where you describe your products to your customers. Your pages will have our buy now buttons. From there, the customer clicks on the buy now button which brings them to a purchase page hosted by TrepStar. The TrepStar retail buy now buttons shopping cart receives the customer order, collects the address info and payment. TrepStar then produces and ships those products directly to the customer at order time. We pay you the net proceeds every few weeks. Please read this over if you would like to consider this method. We charge a low monthly fee to use our sytem and we only charge that fee if you have sales (unlike every other shopping cart). We don't even ask for a credit card. We only get paid if you sell product. Our cost to you is basically the same as if you used our wholesale system. You set a retail price and we charge the customer extra for shipping and handling. There is an example near the bottom of this page
TrepStar Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18093032362086018154noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155830667866204306.post-16724394851584068172021-10-14T10:21:00.008-05:002021-10-14T10:29:25.862-05:00Why doesn't TrepStar offer dual layer 8.5GB DVDs?
TrepStar does not offer dual layer DVDs (DVD-9 8.5GB). Even the best blank dual layer media (as of this writing 10/14/21) often fails during the burn of dual layer discs.

Our research shows that up to 20% of the burns are bad, and a fair percentage of DVD players are incompatible with even the best burned dual layer discs. This is why we do not offer them. It would cause too many support issues and costs for us, as well as refund requests from your customers.

We suggest you re-author your DVD into two discs, or use compression software to fit your larger source DVD onto the single layer DVD-5 (4.7GB) DVDs that we offer.

You might want to consider purchasing 1Click DVD Copy PRO. We do not receive any affiliate commission or money from 1Click. We've worked with them before and we trust their software and their company.

Another option is to re-author your DVD and set the video bitrate so it will fit on a single layer DVD-5 (4.7GB).

For example, the free DVDStyler DVD authoring software lets you change the video bitrate. By changing the video bitrate you can put more than 126 minutes but quality will go down.

In the DVDStyler help section you can read "On one single layer DVD (4.7 GB) can be stored up to 126 minutes of video in good quality (Video bitrate ? 4.5 MB/s). If you selected 'Auto' as video quality in new-project dialog, it is also possible to put more than 126 minutes but quality of video will be automatically reduced."

Most likely, regardless of which DVD authoring software you use, there should be a way to adjust the video bitrate such that it will fit to a single layer DVD. Otherwise, you'll have to split the discs up into two single layer DVDs.

TrepStar does not offer bluray either. There is too much data. Uploading, downloading and storing 25GB files is not something we find economically viable.

keywords: dual layer, single layer, DVD-5, DVD-9, bluray, blu-ray

TrepStar Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18093032362086018154noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155830667866204306.post-1126039872410515532021-03-03T11:22:00.002-06:002021-03-03T11:22:58.080-06:00Amazon MOD DVD/CD service closing
Several new and recent TrepStar publishers have confirmed that Amazon is closing down it's CD/DVD MOD (media on demand) service.

TrepStar is actually a lower cost option. It contains an order summary as well as a link to the new tracking status page.
We also have integrations for ShipStation, Shopify, ThriveCart, WooCommerce, and several others.
TrepStar raises rates accordingly. The biggest change this year is in the small domestic first class package category. If you're a TrepStar publisher that ships single quantity products to individual customers, this change affects you most. Any package (parcel) under 16oz (which is just about all packages we ship) are affected. Packages over 12oz but under 16 get an even higher price raise.

First Class Package Service:

Overall rates for First Class Package Service will increase by 11.9%.

Zone-based pricing is being added to First Class Package Service in 2019.

Any package going across the country (Zone 8) is seeing a
significant rate increase going up from $0.43 (Zone 8 – 1 ounce = $3.09)
to $1.43 (Zone 8 – 13 ounces = $5.53)

13 ounce packages in particular are rising across all zones, increasing $0.84 (Zone 1/2 = $4.94) to $1.43 (Zone 8 = $5.53)

Heavier items weighing 15 ounces to 15.999 ounces are seeing a smaller increase, going from no increase at all (Zone 1/2 = $4.94) to $0.59 (Zone 8 = $5.53)

What this means:

Zone pricing is new. In the past, the price was the same whether you shipped a package to your next door neighbor, or from New York to LA. This year, the zone is based on the distance between where the package is sent and the destination. We're located in south eastern Minnesota (the Twin Cities). This is centrally located between almost all points in the USA and Canada. The good news is we will rarely have packages in the most costly zone 8 which keeps your costs as low as possible.

Over the years, the 1 pound media rate (which we can use for CD/DVD/USB media) was always the lowest cost (by far) for anything over one pound. In those past years, first class parcels always cost less than the 1 pound media rate. However, this year, anything over 8oz costs about the same or less than the 1 pound media rate (as you reach 12oz and up). Thus, if you choose our 'Standard' shipping method and your package is over 8oz, it will ship at the lower cost, but slower media rate. If you always choose our 'Standard + Tracking' shipping method, this means it will not ship at the media rate but will always be first class parcel service which is faster than media mail. In both cases, tracking is provided. Always choose 'Standard' if you want the lowest cost rates. This is new for 2019.

Summary:

Ultimately, it will cost you about 20c more to ship a single quantity CD/DVD/USB in a CD or DVD style case. These ship at the 4oz weight. The average increase for a 4oz first class parcel is about 25c to 30c. We are not charging as much as our costs have risen, but once we see how the average rates look, perhaps we can lower rates or at least not increase them to 30c.
Moving Accounts to Amazon Media on DemandIt looks as if Createspace is closing down. Amazon seems to be moving all parts of that business to Amazon Media on Demand.

However, if you used Createspace to order non retail lower cost "wholesale" copies of your CD or DVDs to your address or drop ship them to your other suppliers, it looks like you will not be able to do that with Amazon Media on Demand.

Amazon Media on Demand will let you sell your titles at retail prices, but if you need to order one or many copies to any other address at cost, you can't do that anymore. This feature of Createspace was useful when you needed extra copies of your product at fairly low prices.

TrepStar.com CD/DVD/USB on-demand fulfillment service has received several inquiries about this. Several Createspace customers are moving their CD/DVD titles to TrepStar since our prices are quite low compared to Createspace and TrepStar does not limit how you order your product. You can still sell your titles on Amazon Media on Demand, but if you need extra copies, or want to sell your titles outside of Amazon, create duplicate projects on TrepStar.com so you can order them when you like (at much lower cost).

TrepStar.com also offers USB on demand since many computers no longer even have CD/DVD drives. If your CD or DVD is often used on your customers' computer, consider offering a USB title.

KEY: createspace alternative, createspace substitute

TrepStar Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18093032362086018154noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155830667866204306.post-53899087046671223872018-08-31T17:19:00.002-05:002022-08-30T10:49:14.145-05:00Why are my cd track names not showing up in windows media player or iTunes
When you master your audio cd, some track title and other CDTEXT (cd text) data can be burned to the physical audio cd. IF you mail us this CD for duplication, we copy that CD Text. Go here for those instructions.

Look here for more details about CD Text

However, not all software or hardware will read or display that CD Text. For example, the CD Text may get displayed in car CD players or home CD player (if they have a display). You don't have full control over what is shown (sometimes titles are truncated, or in lower case etc.)

Most computer software that reads your audio CD will compare it to an online database. It compares parts of a few tracks to identify that CD. There may be a lot more information about that audio CD than can be stored in CD Text, and many times, the actual CD Text burned onto the disc is ignored and not displayed even if it's encoded on the physical disc.

Windows Media player, and iTunes normally use lookup databases and often will not even display the CD Text even for discs that it can not find in the database. It does appear that VLC media player will read and display the CD Text.

There is a very good article that describes all of this here https://ballmedia.com/why-are-my-cd-track-names-not-showing-up-in-window-media-player-or-itunes/

You should consider submitting your Audio CD to the online databases. Many different media players use different databases – Itunes uses Gracenote. Windows Media Player uses AllMusic.
However, if you have an audio CD with the exact meta data CD Text you want, mail it to us so we can make an exact copy: Go here for those instructions.

We use your publisher name and file names to create the cd text.

First, the album title will be the product title and the artist will be your publisher name.

The track names will be the file names you use in your mp3 or wav zip file.

The most important thing you should do when naming your mp3 or wav files is to start them out with a number. You must use leading zeroes if you have more than 9 tracks or they will sort wrong. We burn them in alphabetical order.

10track.mp3 sorts BEFORE 9track.mp3. But, 09track.mp3 properly sorts before 10track.mp3.

When we add CD Text to the disc, the most important one is the CDTrackTextTitle. That is used by some software to display the track title and any related cd text information.

Good file names for tracks are:
01 Water falling on stones.mp3
02 Door opening and closing.mp3
...
09 Wind blowing through trees.mp3
10 Some other sound.mp3
11 Goodbye.mp3

When finished, the track titles will be:
"Water falling on stones"
"Door opening and closing"
...
The leading digits, and the .mp3 or .wav part of the file name will not be used when making the CDTrackTextTitle

Less desirable file names (based on the title text we make) are really long and out of order like:

track-1-sound-flokk45-Skateboard-plus10secsilence-50sec-1-minus40.wav
track-10-sound-flokk27-Helicopter-plus10secsilence-1p40-1-minus40.wav
track-9-sound-flokk49-children-yelling-plus10secsilence-34sec-1-minus40.wav

First of all, you'll notice the tracks will burn in the wrong order. They are listed alphabetically above, but you can tell the publisher did not want them burned in that order. Our system is automated, so to avoid ambiguity, we sort alphabetically with no exceptions.

Finally, the file names are too long and confusing. Long and confusing names are fine if you don't care about the CDText. The reason it's not important to most is because the audio cd is normally just played, and the track information is never seen by anyone.

If you have a lot of short sound files in your cd, the CD text for the title of each track will be truncated (shortened). You don't have to worry about this unless you are very concerned about the CD Text. There is a 2000 character limit for all track titles.

For example, imagine you have 60 short tracks in the zip file. For 60 tracks, the limit is about 33 characters for the CDTrackTextTitle. This is because 2000/60 = 33
characters per track.

This means the CDTrackTextTitle for a file named "track-10-sound-flokk27-Helicopter-plus10secsilence-1p40-1-minus40" will be shortened to "track-10-sound-flokk27-Helicopter"

Your disc will still burn just fine with the long track names. Our software simply truncates the CD Text to make it work. We are mentioning this just for those of you concerned or interested in CD Text.

Many people choose to include logo images, css, js, and any other valid HTML.

However, you must use https for any outside references other than simple a href links to other web pages.

Otherwise your customers will think that the purchase page is not secure! They probably will not purchase from that page and certainly your sales will be lower than they could be.

If you've added http:// instead of https:// to any of the TrepStar custom HTML sections, you'll see a warning that brought you to this page.

If you see that warning, you should modify your links. If you do not, your customer will see warnings like this (example from FireFox):
